Sean Kingston to perform in Israel this summer

Leading reggae-hip hop star Sean Kingston is expected to join the shower of freign artists arriving in Israel this summer, with a mid-July performance.

Sean Kingston burst into the music world only a year ago, at the age of 18. His song “Beautiful Girls” hit the radio stations and automatically reached the peak of the American billboards and stayed there for three weeks.

Review: Pure Reggae

Mention reggae and certain names come to mind. The likes of Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Black Uhuru, Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff are just some of them. Unfortunately, because of the label issue, most of them are unrepresented on this three-CD compilation (which only has two songs by Tosh). Some might then ask how it could be called Pure Reggae but it’s still worth a listen or two, and, at only RM39.90, it’s a good bargain.

Buju pleads for other artistes to …CLEAN UP YOUR MUSIC

Popular deejay Buju Banton has issued an emotional appeal to his fellow entertainers to clean up their lyrics in order to help Jamaica to recover from its present social decay.

The deejay, who posted a message in his newsletter, The Gargamel Gleaner, said that the country is presently having a problem with; crime, politics, the dons, the deejays and lesbian and gays.

Audrey Reid’s acting career began to soar when she joined the theatrical troupe, Oliver Samuels and Friends, with whom she toured in the Caribbean, USA and UK. She also starred in Oliver Samuels’ Jamaican television series Oliver at Large.

Sure, incest and sexual abuse are unlikely subjects for a hit single, but when Queen Ifrica’s “Daddy” took Jamaican radio by storm last fall, she was surprised by demands to ban the tune.

“They were trying to say that I was making it difficult for fathers who had good relationships with their daughters and sons, like I was trying to bring down men,” said the 33-year-old author of the controversial track that includes the plaintive cry, “Daddy, don’t touch me there.”
