In a short conversation with the disc jock, whose real name is Nicole Duhaney, she said she has not been fired.

When asked about the letter to the editor published in The Gleaner yesterday titled ‘Impact of Broadcasting Commission being felt’, in which Broadcasting Commission’s Executive Director Cordel Green said a female DJ had been fired from her prime-time slot on a popular radio station, Nikki Z said she did not know if that was referring to her as she has not been fired.

The Wailers bring reggae into new realms

No group did more to turn reggae into an international musical movement than the Wailers, who once again are taking the music into uncharted realms.

In one of the more unlikely popular-music pairings in recent memory, country star Kenny Chesney collaborated with the Wailers on his chart-topping hit “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven,” and then invited them to perform with him in November at the 42nd Annual Country Music Association Awards. The vibe will be more irie than twangy, though, when the Wailers play the Independent on Friday and Saturday as part of a national tour focusing on songs from the classic 1977 Bob Marley and the Wailers album “Exodus.”

Queen Ifrica – Entertainer Of The Year

“HELLO,” she says, her tone polite and friendly, seconds after gliding next to me on a couch at the office and recording studio in Kingston which she probably frequents more than her own home. She is fashionably late (arriving with a mini-entourage that includes legendary reggae crooner Tony Rebel) and, dare I add, looking fashionably thin.

Marley takes Control – But bad year for reggae on Billboard

Acoustic has debuted at number one on Billboard Magazine’s Reggae Chart, ending a dismal year for Jamaican music on the trade publication’s charts.

Acoustic is the unplugged version of Marley’s Mind Control, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album this year. Only one album in the latest edition of the Reggae Chart – Beres Hammond’s A Moment In Time – was recorded solely in Jamaica.

CD release honors reggae’s ‘crown prince’

No less an authoritative figure than Bob Marley dubbed Dennis Brown “the Crown Prince of Reggae,” and throughout an extraordinary career that began at age 13, he was arguably the genre’s finest pure singer.

His velvet voice was always rich, resonant and alluring, and Brown’s proficiency with ballads and love songs was so great that he helped launch a reggae strain that would be deemed “Lovers Rock.” But despite his huge popularity throughout the Caribbean and in England, Brown only enjoyed sporadic success in America.

Fredlocks makes album in tribute to Dennis Brown

Although he is not regarded as a prolific hit-maker, the record shows that Fredlocks has scored two of the biggest reggae hits. Given that fact, history will also recall that, when reggae music was dominated by culturally- aware messages, he was one of its foremost messengers.
Fredlocks… when all this come a road, a more history dat again

Among those two singles for which Fredlocks will never be forgotten is, one that can be considered an anthem of sorts entitled Black Starliner, and the other True Rastaman, better known by its catchy, irresistible punchline, “So Jah Say” (not to be confused with Bob Marley’s song).
