Bob Marley wasn’t well-known beyond college campuses when Kim Gottlieb was dispatched to Jamaica in the early ’70s to photograph him in his homeland. Gottlieb was hired by Marley’s label, Island Records, but she ended up shooting more than just album covers and publicity stills: She walked away with hundreds of intimate photos of Marley at home and on the road.

Reggae singer Etana is currently on tour in Europe. According to reports, the majority of the venues have been packed to capacity and her performances are also said to be receiving rave reviews. The tour kicked off in Amsterdam where she shared the stage with other reigning international reggae acts, Gyptian and Busy Signal.

The singing sensation has developed a sturdy fanbase in Europe where tracks from her debut album, The Strong One are still in high rotation. Free, August Town, Roots and I Am Not Afraid, have been favourites for patrons.

The history of reggae music in Britain is being revisited by London’s Hackney Museum through a photo exhibition and two films.

‘Reggae Rebels’ is the title of the exhibition, which opened in September and is scheduled to close in early January. It features the work of photographer Dennis Morris, a veteran of the British pop music scene.

Two weeks ago Banton was offered bail with stringent conditions by United States Magistrate Anthony Porcelli as he awaits a second trial for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five or more kilogrammes of cocaine.
