The Wailers bring reggae into new realms

No group did more to turn reggae into an international musical movement than the Wailers, who once again are taking the music into uncharted realms.

In one of the more unlikely popular-music pairings in recent memory, country star Kenny Chesney collaborated with the Wailers on his chart-topping hit “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven,” and then invited them to perform with him in November at the 42nd Annual Country Music Association Awards. The vibe will be more irie than twangy, though, when the Wailers play the Independent on Friday and Saturday as part of a national tour focusing on songs from the classic 1977 Bob Marley and the Wailers album “Exodus.”
