Will our Soca artistes ever measure up to regional artistes?
The recent International Soca Monarch competition held in Trinidad, which made history with the crowning of an eight-month pregnant Faye-Ann Lyons Alvarez, was indicative of the growth of soca music in the Caribbean.
The competition was held on Friday, February 20 and, as a means of promoting music as an export for a project spearheaded by the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Secretariat, reigning Soca Monarchs from around the Eastern Caribbean were sponsored to compete in the event.
